Frequently Asked Questions
What outbreaks does OutbreakWatch track?
We currently track two active outbreaks: (1) The 2026 MV Hondius Andes hantavirus outbreak β a cruise ship cluster with confirmed human-to-human transmission across 8+ countries. (2) The 2026 DRC Bundibugyo ebolavirus outbreak β declared a PHEIC by WHO, with 500+ suspected cases and 130+ deaths.
How often is the data updated?
News feeds are checked hourly. Official case reports from WHO/PAHO are polled daily. The dashboard automatically refreshes every 60 seconds.
What data sources are used?
WHO Disease Outbreak News (DON), PAHO Epidemiological Alerts, ProMED-mail, PubMed/MEDLINE academic literature, and global news media (Reuters, BBC, Bing News). All data is cross-referenced and deduplicated.
Should I be worried?
For most people outside affected areas: no. Both outbreaks are being actively monitored and responded to by WHO and national health authorities. This dashboard provides transparency, not panic. Always consult official public health authorities for guidance.
